Volunteers

Hundreds of men, women and children – often entire families – donate their time and talents to help us at the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission. Join the team!

You can be involved off-site by organizing needed items. Or, you can come to one of our facilities or to help in many ways.

Volunteers are the backbone of our ministry – we need you!

DOWNTOWN MISSION

We can always use guest speakers and musical/drama performances for the program clients and guests. Pastors, lay leaders and others in ministry are encouraged to share their faith and passion during our morning chapel services. Youth groups and choirs are also welcomed to minister to our clients. You can sign up for a regular rotation or a one-time visit. Every visit is appreciated!

For more information and to set up an interview, please call Chaplain Gerry (775) 329-0698.

MEALS FOR HOMELESS MEN AND WOMEN

A great way to serve! Church groups, youth groups and families come several times a month to serve hot dinners to homeless men and women at the Mission. Dinners are served from 5-5:30 p.m. for about 40-60 women and 5:30-6 p.m. for up to 75 men. Church groups are invited to share their faith with the men and women. Groups can bring their prepared meals and Mission staff will heat them up to health codes before serving, or we can do the cooking and you can serve: Your choice! Either way, this is a special time to minister to the hurting and a great way for your church or group to get involved.

Morning person? Each day, we pass out doughnuts, pastries, fruit and drinks to about 200 homeless men beginning around 6:30 a.m. We help them start their day on the right track and would love for you to join us!

To learn more, please call Tammie at (775) 323-0386, Ext. 16.

NEW LIFE TRAINING CENTER (WAREHOUSE)

If you have a trade such as electronics, furniture repair, appliance repair, etc., we could use your expertise to repair items while training a client in the basics. This is perfect for retirees and the self-employed who want to help others!

Please call Tammie at (775) 323-0386, Ext. 16.

GENERAL MISSION

If you own a hardware, electronics, flooring or home supply store, we could always use your expertise. Perhaps you could donate items or help us purchase items at low cost. We have a large operation and are always looking for good business partners.

If you can help us, please call Tammie at (775) 323-0386, Ext. 16.

THANKSGIVING DAY DINNER AND WINTER COAT GIVEAWAY

Every Thanksgiving Day, we serve a traditional Thanksgiving dinner downtown and at several senior citizen centers to as many as 1,200 needy men, women and children. We also have several thousand winter coats and supplies on hand to give away to all in need.

We have limited opportunities for this event, but we need servers and general use volunteers.

If you’d like to help out, please call Tammie at (775) 323-0386, Ext. 16.

CHRISTMAS DAY DINNERS

Our largest event of the year is our annual Christmas Day dinner and present giveaway, held at our downtown Mission and at several local senior citizen centers. We need food servers, entertainment and general-use volunteers.

For more details, please call Tammie at (775) 323-0386, Ext. 16.

CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR MEN & WOMEN IN RSGM’S C.A.R.E. PROGRAM

The Mission provides small gifts and hygiene packs for homeless men and women as well as those in our Christian Addiction Recovery and Education program, our intensive recovery program.

We welcome your donations of new caps, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, hand lotion, cologne, after-shave and any other small, appropriate gifts. For more ideas, please see the “Stuff-a-Sock” entry below!

We also need volunteers to help wrap Christmas gifts.

If you’d like to help, please call Tammie (775) 323-0386, Ext. 16.

GIFTS FOR MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN AT RSGM’S CHRISTMAS DAY DINNER

The Mission passes out small gifts to poor and homeless families and individuals who come to our annual dinner.

We appreciate your donations of new socks, gloves, mittens, scarves, knit caps or other warm clothing, plus appropriate toys for the children (all ages needed).

For more details, please call Tammie (775) 323-0386, Ext. 16.

STUFF-A-SOCK GIFTS FOR MEN & WOMEN

Each winter, the Mission distributes hundreds of socks stuffed with basic hygiene necessities to men and women both in our recovery program and those coming in off the street.

Place one new, rolled up tube sock inside the other, then stuff the latter with small, travel-sized items such as a toothpaste, shampoo, disposable razor, shaving cream, comb, soap, lotion and pocket packs of facial tissue, etc.

This is so easy and practical that we have church groups, school clubs, workplaces and others that get together to help the needy!

If you’d like to help, please call Tammie at (775) 323-0386, Ext. 16 or bring the socks to the Mission (355 Record St., Reno) or the warehouse (2115 Timber Way, Reno).

If you want to volunteer but don’t see something that interests you,

please call Tammie Benesch at (775) 323-0386, Ext. 16.

We’ll find something for you!
