Tell us about yourself
I love the Lord first and foremost. I like to laugh and I am always up for a good joke. I love my job and the people I work with. On my down time I enjoy relaxing with a good movie. I love being a grandma and spending time with my sons. Last but not least I like to try different foods from different cultures.
What’s one thing about you that surprises people?
That I’m not as mean as I look.
What’s the most influential book you’ve read besides the Bible?
Search for Significance.
Favorite TV show or movie?
Lost.
How did you end up at the Mission?
I was homeless, out on the streets of Reno. I had nowhere to go. Someone told me about the Mission, so I ended up there, scared to death. They told me about a recovery program. My first reaction was, “I don’t need any help.” But I saw someone I knew. They had gotten help and I wanted it too. I joined the recovery program. It changed my life more than you can imagine. It changed the way I react, speak, think and live. I was different inside and out. After I graduated, Rick offered me a job. He asked me how much I wanted in pay. I told him and he said, “You’re worth much more than that.” I’ll never forget that. I’ve been here ever since. I can’t see myself anywhere else.
What’s the best criticism you ever received?
When I was told not to judge by the letter of the law but by the law of the spirit.
How did you come to know Christ?
From an amazing woman I knew in my late 20’s. I knew her son and met her through him. She showed me so much love and acceptance, and told me all about Jesus and how much he loved me. I grew up in the church, but I didn’t have a relationship with God. I knew of him but never knew him. She helped me understand what God was all about.
What hobbies do you have?
Collecting good movies. I like love stories, action, you name it and I like it.
Biggest fear?
That someone in my family will not be saved.
What do like most about being part of the Mission team?
The unity and the family atmosphere.
What food never touches your lips?
None that I can think of!
Favorite memory at the Mission?
When I had a fake jar of cold cream and gave it to one of our staff members to open and out pops this snake. I thought he was going to have a heart attack. I felt so bad but it was so funny. Whenever I have a bad day I think about that moment and it brightens my day.
Morning or evening person?
Morning. I don’t wake up grouchy or mean. I just like the mornings.
Why the Gospel Mission?
