Clothing
RSGM annually gives away thousands of pieces of clothing through
a variety of means designed to assist individuals, families and children.
Often, those new to the area are unprepared for the sometimes harsh
Northern Nevada winters. Many of them seek help from the Gospel Mission,
which provides free clothing to those in need through vouchers good
at one of our thrift stores. Anyone needing clothing can walk in
to our downtown Mission, 355 Record St., and receive a voucher.
The Mission annually conducts its “Klothes 4 Kids” back-to-school
giveaway aimed at providing quality new and like-new clothing for
low-income families. Since its inception, the campaign has distributed
nearly 30,000 pieces of clothing to over 2,500 children. Several
agencies, churches and businesses support the event, including co-sponsors
KRNV-News 4 (the local NBC affiliate), Reno Harley-Davidson, Park
Lane Mall and K-mart.
Another large event is our annual Christmas Day Dinner, where we
provide gifts, free jackets and winter gear to more than 500 needy
men, women and children.
The Gospel Mission maintains clothing closets for local schools
which have large numbers of students from low-income families. Teachers
and workers identify children in need and allow them to select free
clothing.
We also clothe all of our program men and women, allowing them to
select several work outfits and personal clothing items.
As one of the more popular items, clothing is predominantly displayed
at our thrift stores. Customers looking for bargains find great deals
on dresses, coats, pants, baby clothes and other items.
All clothing donated to the Mission is usable. We will find use
for every piece. For articles that are ripped or unwearable, we convert
into 1,200-pound bales to sell to a recycling company.
If you would like to donate clothing, please call us at (775) 323-7999.
