Counseling

We all experience difficulties in life, and the only shame is not seeking help when you need it.

Staff at the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission strongly believe that many times individuals or couples need such special expertise to help them through their struggles.

The Mission has several avenues to meet this need through Christ-centered, Bible-based counseling that seeks to identify issues and behavioral patterns and correct them through therapy that emphasizes God as the solution to every problem.

Northern Nevada Counseling Services is the Mission’s low-cost, outpatient Christian counseling center that offers help for marriages and families. It exists to bring clients closer to each other through Jesus Christ.

Our Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist uses expert training and a Bible-based approach to address marital difficulties, stress, anger management and other life problems such as depression and loneliness.

He also is a licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor who helps individuals and marriages cope with alcohol, drug, pornography and gambling addictions.

Our Masters-degreed counselor also is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Recovery (EMDR), a highly specialized trauma recovery technique that rapidly helps those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder relating to sexual abuse or assault, violent crime, military combat, car accidents and other tragedies.

Churches, pastors and other agencies refer clients to us to ease their caseload or to step in when they believe specialized professional help is needed.

Although the Mission’s C.A.R.E. recovery program is set up to handle most of a program client’s problems, occasionally a serious issue requires extra help. These clients are referred free of charge to our counselor, who also conducts special groups for addictions recovery.
